North Carolina Man Rips Bush A New One
At a recent Community Gathering where Bush often scripts audiencies with allies and supporters to boost morale, a North Carolina man who was there absolutely ripped him a new one.

Jack Abramoff Pleads Guilty

Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist who spawned a congressional corruption scandal, pleaded guilty Tuesday to three felonies and pledged to cooperate in a criminal probe edging closer to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

"I plead guilty, your honor," Abramoff said in flat, unemotional tones, accepting a plea bargain that said he had provided lavish trips, golf outings, meals and more to public officials "in exchange for a series of official acts."

In one case, he reported payments totaling $50,000 to the wife of a congressional aide to help block legislation for a client. The aide worked for DeLay, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Public corruption aside, Abramoff admitted defrauding four Indian tribes and other clients, taking millions in kickbacks from a one-time business partner, misusing a charity he had established and failing to pay income taxes on millions of ill-gotten gains.

He is expected to plead guilty to additional charges on Wednesday in Florida in connection with charges stemming from the 2000 purchase of a fleet of gambling boats.

At the Justice Department, officials said they intend to make use of the trove of e-mails and other material in Abramoff's possession as part of a probe that is believed to be focusing on as many as 20 members of Congress and aides.

20 Republican members of Congress involved with illegal activity. Depressing, but it opens up hope to the future.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Rep. Randy ''Duke'' Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy and tax charges and tearfully resigned from office, admitting he took $2.4 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators.

Randy Cunningham "enriched himself through his position and violated the trust of those who put him there," U.S. Attorney Carol Lam said.
Cunningham, 63, entered pleas in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud and wire fraud, and tax evasion for underreporting his income in 2004.

Cunningham answered ''yes, Your Honor'' when asked by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns if he had accepted bribes from someone in exchange for his performance of official duties.

Later, at a news conference, he wiped away tears as he announced his resignation.

''I can't undo what I have done but I can atone,'' he said.

Cunningham, an eight-term Republican congressman, had already announced in July that he would not seek re-election next year.

House Ethics rules say that any lawmaker convicted of a felony no longer should vote or participate in committee work. Under Republican caucus rules, Cunningham also would have lost his chairmanship of the House Intelligence subcommittee on terrorism and human intelligence.

I should note, if you do print this out or forward it on, you might want to run through and pick out some of the grammar errors. Nothing too significant, but things like Republicans, not Republican's, in a handful of places.

Have a nice day, all.

In other news, a research team at Johns Hopkins estimates that civillian casualties in Iraq may be as high as 100,000 now.
That's right. A hundred thousand. More than the population of most small cities.
(source: International Herald-Tribune
One notable quote about it: ""We were shocked at the magnitude but we're quite sure that the estimate of 100,000 is a conservative estimate," said Dr. Gilbert Burnham of the Johns Hopkins study team. He said the team excluded deaths in Falluja in making their estimate, since that city was the site of unusually intense violence."

This is a site with posters that you can print and hang up to help influence the vote.
The posters include the address to the site so people can get the posters themselves
and learn more information on the issues they address.
Help us change some minds and change our leadership.

THe great thing about this site is that it points out that Bush is far from a conservative. Which is something Conservates need to be made aware of. So please, hang up some posters.

Iraq Elections Probably Won't Go As Planned

Full Text, from NYTCollapse )

"Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld spoke openly for the first time on Thursday about the possibility that the elections might be held only in parts of Iraq."

Ah, the true measure of a fair, democratic election - When only 25% of the population gets to vote. Welcome to America in 1792.
